Gymkhana Day

Gymkhana Day

  • Babcock Hill Horses Naturally LLC. (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Gymkhana/Games Day 10/27 from 10-12ishpm. This is such a fun sport, and great way to learn about in laid back setting. Whether you just want to try it, or you are currently competing and want to improve skills, this is a great opportunity. There is fun for every level. Even though this is a western sport, you are welcome to do in an english saddle if you are more comfortable. We will be going over the basic Gymkhana patterns: Clover leaf (barrel racing), arena race and pole bending plus a surprise pattern.

For each pattern, lead line will go first, followed by novice-advanced.

10am: Arena Race

10:30am: Clover Leaf (Barrel Racing)

11am: Pole Bending

11:30am: Surprise Pattern

You will need to be here, tacked and warmed up by 10am so we can start promptly. Space is limited, so please sign up asap. Cost is $60 ($75 for lead line). Of course this is February.. So this is dependent on it being above 20 degrees and no weather advisories. If this is the case, we will try for a snow date. Please dress appropriately for weather (lots of layers). We will be indoors, but it will still only be 10 degrees warmer than outside.

I will also need lead line volunteers and ring crew volunteers so we can change patterns quickly. Lead line helpers can do clinic too, there will be time to switch riders in between. Please let me know if you can help. naturalhorse80@yahoo.com

Great opportunity for kids to learn more about natural horsemanship, spend the day with horses, build a relationship with them and meet new friends.  Just being around horses does wonders to boost the natural health of the human body, mind and spirit. There will be mounted and unmounted activities.  Open to ages 5-12yo. All levels and disciplines are welcome.  If you are older than 12yo and want to participate, please contact us about counselor in training opportunities.  There will be a game day on Friday to show off all you have accomplished with your horse, parents and friends are encouraged to come.  Each week we will focus on something different.  So if you wanted to do multiple weeks, it will be a great experience.

Available weeks:
June 30th- July 3rd
July 14th- July. 17th

Runs Tuesday-Friday 9am-2pm.  Cost is $240 per week.  Please bring a lunch, water, sunscreen and/or anything else you may need.  Helmets, long pants and a boot with a small heel are required to ride.  We do have helmets available here if needed.

Contact Dawn Bonin 860-985-7611 or naturalhorse80@yahoo.com for more info or to preregister.

Clinic: Yoga on Horseback

Yoga gives the rider a sense of peace and balance – allowing for a stronger bond and improved communication with your horse. Yoga will also give you a better seat and a more enjoyable ride for you and your horse. I encourage an innovative, personalized style of yoga to fit your needs and that of your horse. Whether you currently practice yoga or never have taken a class, if you love horses and riding you owe it to yourself to try this class.

We would like to welcome Mary-Jeanne Cyr to teach Yoga on Horseback. All levels and disciplines welcome. Although we ask you be confident at walk and trot OR have a lead line helper available to help.
